Getting Started
Most independent-learning courses allow open entrance: You can register and get started after the beginning of the quarter.

Once you've registered for an independent-learning course, you'll have access to a faculty member to facilitate your learning. Instructors are available to assist and interact with you in person during regularly scheduled hours in the centers, as well as by phone, voice-mail, e-mail and fax links. During a short orientation, you'll learn about the course and the instructor's expectations. Your instructor can offer flexible time frames for starting and finishing courses and coach you on how to study for an independent-learning course.

What to Expect
Your independent-learning course provides the same college-level content that is covered in its classroom counterpart. In fact, your transcript will list the course and grade you earned just as if you were enrolled in a classroom-based course. In other words, you earn full college credit for courses taken through the centers for independent learning.

Your mastery of the course is partially evaluated through tests taken, when you are ready, in a testing lab, conveniently located at each of the centers for independent learning. You can choose from a variety of learning situations at convenient times and locations as you study at your own pace using one of the following formats: telecourses, appointment-based courses, open lab and walk-in courses, group instruction, and broadcast courses.
