	Allied Health 145: Health Care Collaboration
	Perspective can make all the difference in the world. Have your ever picked up a kaleidoscope and simply looked into it? The many colors and shapes can appear to be a jumbled mess. If you were unfamiliar with a kaleidoscope, you would not know you can turn the kaleidoscope and rearrange the shapes and colors, gaining a new order and perspective. We need to look at things from more than one perspective to get it right. Persons with health care needs are not one-dimensional. They come to the health care environment with many layers. We need to view them in perspective. Major research studies have identified collaboration between health care professionals as a strong indicator for positive client outcomes. If we want patients to live we need to learn to talk with and listen to each other. If we want to accomplish more without spinning our wheels, we need to work together. It is not always possible to have the chance to brainstorm with a variety of health care providers before you absolutely have to. This online course gives each and everyone of you the chance to learn about a variety of health care professions and their role in health care, how to enhance collaboration in the health care setting, and to practice collaboration within a case-study format.

	Course description Health Care Collaboration examines the role of the interdisciplinary health care team as makes a difference in the lives of our patients. It prepares you, the student, to participate in case studies and other methods of collaboration within a multidisciplinary team. You will develop collaboration and communication skills and explore support and referral networks for yourself. Prerequisite: None this course is open to anyone who wants to feel better able to negotiate in a health care setting. Prior experience or current program enrollment in health care and human services recommended. General Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: Describe the function of a multidisciplinary health care team and its impact on patient outcomes. Explain the role of the student's profession within that team. Demonstrate skills of effective collaboration and communication within a team. Analyze a case study to assess and plan treatment. Compare health care resources available for clients. Develop professional networks for support and referrals.
