Travel 1121: Introduction to the Travel, Tourism and Meeting and Event Industries  

Welcome to the exciting world of travel!

• A career in travel means working for one of America’s top employers today – the travel and tourism industry!  Worldwide career opportunities abound! Some of the many interesting careers available in this $580 billion industry, including working for an airline, cruise line, or for a tour operator, convention organization, hotel or resort. There are also careers in the areas of car rental companies, rail services, motor coach/bus lines, government tourist boards and, of course, travel agencies. For people with a creative flair, other options include pursuing a career as a travel writer, brochure designer or photographer.
• This course is just the beginning!  From here you can continue to take classes at the College of DuPage in the Travel and Tourism Department until you finally reach your goal of earning a degree or certificate.  The degrees are the Travel and Tourism Professional, A.A.S. Degree and the Meeting and Event Planning, A.A.S. Degree.  The six certificates include Fundamentals of Travel and Tourism, E-Travel and Tourism, Travel Geography Specialist, Travel and Tourism Professional, Tour Escort, and Meeting and Event Planning.
