Philosophy 1114: Business Ethics

In this course, students will critically investigate, discuss, and analyze ethical theoretical frameworks in order to investigate common business practices and policies. The goal is that students develop an ability to responsibly deal with situations posing ethical dilemmas on a practical level in the global business world.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to do the following:

Evaluate the contributions of the academic discipline of business ethics to workplace issues
Define basic elements of ethics and their application to moral issues in business
Describe and apply theories of economic justice
Apply moral reasoning and the techniques of moral argumentation to ethical decision-making in business
Identify and respond adequately to major issues within business ethics along two main lines: business and its external relations and business and its internal relationships
Recognize issues of racism and sexism in current concrete manifestations in the areas of practical concern for business ethics
Analyze case studies in business and professional ethics
