The transition from company officer to Chief Officer is perhaps the second most important and potentially the most difficult change in your entire fire service career. This course deals with principles of coordinating fire ground tactics by utilization of manpower and equipment. The goal of Tactics II is to familiarize the student with strategic and tactical responsibilities of the Fire Officer II on the fireground. The Fire Officer II will understand the responsibilities of the Command Officer and his/her responsibility in various fire situations presented for analysis and evaluation This course, Fire Tactics II, will help you advance in achieving that goal.
Anyone in the Fire Service.
Prerequisites: Fire 2221/Tactics I or consent of the instructor.
Tactics II meets or exceeds the requirements for certification by the Illinois State Fire Marshal, Office of Personnel Standards and Education and the National Fire Protection Association Standard 1021, Fire Officer Professional Qualifications leading to certification as a Fire Officer II. To be certified as a Fire Officer II in the State of Illinois you must be on a fire department, be a certified Fire Fighter II, and pass all of the classes for Fire Officer II certification as specified by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office. If you do not live in Illinois, check with the local authority having jurisdiction, in your state, about the state requirements for certification.
This course is delivered online. Computer knowledge, access to a computer, having an internet service provider (such as AOL, MSN, etc), and knowing how to operate a computer are necessary to access this course and perform web searches. Communications will be asynchronous and interacting with your fellow students will greatly enhance your learning experience. Students taking this course will have diverse knowledge and ideas should be shared. Course content will be broken into units and assignments will be due at the end of each unit. A schedule will be supplied when the student accesses the course through Blackboard.
Students meeting the requirements can enroll by calling the College of DuPage at 630.942.2377 or register online using myACCESS. Click "I'm New to myACCESS" and follow the instructions. It is suggested that students access each area in COD Online, prior to registration, to see if online learning is for them.
