Fire Fighting is an interesting career and contains many different aspects. In this course, Fire Science 2210, you will study how efficiency, reliability and safety are critical areas of concern for fire apparatus. You will see how changes over time have improved even the most basic piece of fire apparatus. To further enhance your understanding of the modern Fire Engine or Truck, you will explore the different designs, functions, and operating characteristics of motorized fire apparatus, including the evaluation of custom and commercial chassis, power plant and fire pumps.
Admission is open to anyone who is a high school graduate, or has earned a GED, and is at least 18 years old, but students wanting to take this course should be enrolled in Fire Science classes. Fire Science 1100 is not required but recommended.
Fire Apparatus does not have any National and State Certifications associated with the course. It is one of the five core classes that are mandatory for the Fire Science Technology, Fire Science degree.
This course is delivered online. Computer knowledge, access to a computer and fax machine, having an internet service provider (such as AOL, MSN, etc), and knowing how to operate a computer are necessary to complete this course. Independent student field trips to local Fire Departments are required to complete assignments. Communicating and interacting with your fellow students/instructor greatly enhance your learning experience. Course content is broken into units and assignments are due at the end of each unit. A schedule will be supplied when the student signs online to the course.
