Welcome to French 1101 Internet, Elementary French I. This course develops the ability to speak, understand, read, and write French in a cultural and communicative context. French 1101 Internet is for the beginning student with no prior experience in the language. This is a four-credit hour course that may not be repeated for credit. French 1101 Internet never meets in the classroom; all coursework and exams are completed online.

Although learning French via the Internet provides maximum flexibility, it is by no means a shortcut to acquiring the language. Estimates are difficult due to the complex nature of language acquisition; however, we have found that most successful students need to dedicate at least 8 to 10 hours a week to this course--double that time during an intensive course sequence, such as the summer 8 week program.
Independent study takes discipline and dedication. You are responsible for pacing your work throughout the semester and meeting all important due dates and deadlines.
