Care of the Infant, Toddler, and Two-Year-Old Child II

ECEC 1117 is a continuation of the study of infants, toddlers, and two-year-old children in group care. Emphasis is placed on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of developmentally appropriate activities and experiences. 3 Credit Hours

This course is designed for:

Individuals who are planning a career in early childhood education as teachers, child care center directors, and family child care providers or individuals for whom specialized knowledge of infant – toddler programming is applicable; social work, psychology, or human services.
Early Childhood Certificate students at the College of DuPage who are pursuing the Infant – Toddler Certificate.
Early Childhood Degree seeking students at the College of DuPage who are looking for a course to fulfill their elective requirement.
Parents or parents-to-be who wants to better understand their roles and responsibilities to infants and toddlers.

Prerequisites:

ECEC 1101 Growth and Development of the Young Child
OR
ECEC 1116 Care of the Infant, Toddler, and Two-Year-Old Child I

Course Objectives:

Describe the development of infants, toddlers, and two-year-old children in terms of cognitive growth, language and communication, and brain development.
Provide appropriate experiences and activities that support the young child’s development.
Demonstrate knowledge of classroom arrangements for very young children.
Describe ways of providing a healthy environment for infants and toddlers.
Analyze and recognize methods of building a partnership with parents.

Structure of the course:

This course is delivered totally on-line. Computer knowledge, access to a computer, having an Internet service provider (such as AOL, MSN, Comcast, etc.), and knowing how to operate a computer are necessary to link to this course and complete assignments. Course content is broken down into units with a set of assignments due each week. A course schedule is provided the first day of the semester when the student logs into the class.
