The goal of CIS 1310 (HTML and CSS) is the creation of Creation of effective web pages using Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The course includes web page and web site design concepts and preparation of graphics for the web, with the primary focus on implementation of the design. This on-line course combines textbook readings, textbook assignments, Internet readings, and hands-on computer work. CIS 1310 is a 3 semester hour course.

CIS 1310 is intended for the beginning Web page developer. The prerequisites are CIS 1120 (The Internet) and CIS 1130 (Windows Basics) or CIS 1150 (Introduction to Computer Information Systems). Working knowledge of the Internet and WWW (search techniques, file downloads, decompressing files, Web navigation, using email, etc.) and Windows (create folder (subdirectory), copy files, move files, pathnames, etc.) is expected.

Although you do not always need to be "online" while you are completing the tutorials or the assignments that are in the text book, you will need to be on line to access course materials and to do the Internet activities.

• Use basic HTML tags to create Web pages
• Create links
• Prepare graphics for the Web
• Obtain multimedia components for Web pages
• Create Web documents that contain multimedia elements
• Create Web pages with tables
• Create Web pages with frames
• Create Web pages using forms
• Create Web pages using CSS1 properties
• Create Web pages using CSS2 properties
• Implement a Web site

Tests will be given on-campus. Out of area students must contact the instructor.

• Web Browser
  You must already have one Web Browser. For this course, Internet Explorer 6.0 or above is REQUIRED, and, for testing web pages, Netscape Navigator 6.0 or above is highly recommended. Since you are preparing pages for the Web, you should test your Web pages on both browsers.
  
  
• Adobe Photoshop Elements (2.0 or above)
  Preparing graphic images for the Web is an important part of constructing Web pages. You should be able to buy Photoshop Elements 2.0 for $30 or less. Search the Web! Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 is available for use in the Academic Computer Center above the library in the SRC building.

  If you already have another graphics program that you would like to use, please contact your instructor. However, should you choose to use another graphics program, the instructor will NOT be available for questions or help in using the program. Sorry but I just cannot know them all and keep them straight!

• To submit your assignments, you will need to zip your files. If you are running Windows XP or Vista, you can use the Windows compression utility. You can also use WinZip to submit your chapter assignments. Instructions on downloading and using WinZip are contained in the course content.
  
  
• An HTML editor is not required but is highly recommended and can make your Web page preparation so much easier! Recommended HTML editors are CoffeeCup (freeware version or you can upgrade), TextPad (shareware) or ConTEXT(freeware).
  
  
• Software unacceptable for this course: An HTML generator or converter such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver.
