Physical Education 2201: Introduction to Coaching

The question no longer is "Should coaches be trained?" but "How should coaches be trained?" The College of DuPage and the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) are working together to provide the answer to this question through the development and implementation of coaching education courses and resources.

Numerous state high school associations, including the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), currently use ASEP's courses in qualifying high school coaches. The IHSA currently requires ASEP's two courses Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid along with the Illinois State Test, and valid CPR certification.

Successful completion of PE 2201: Introduction to Coaching will:

  • Fulfill the Coaching Principles course requirement
  • Fulfill the Illinois State Test requirement, and
  • Provide 3 hours of college credit.

You will learn techniques and skills to help make sports a safe, successful, and enjoyable experience for young people. The course is offered completely online to provide flexibility around busy coaching schedules.
