LIBRARY 1105: Readers' Advisory

Library 1105: Readers’ Advisory explores the role of the Library Technical Assistant in service to recreational readers in public libraries is an intrinsic component of reference and, in many libraries, a separate public service position.  Library Technical Assistants are quite often on the front lines of this service, and need to be well equipped to provide competent and knowledgeable information to answer reading and literature-oriented questions posed by readers of fiction and narrative non-fiction.  Study of genres and types of literature are emphasized, as well as techniques for providing competent patron interaction, collection analysis, displays, exhibits and supporting bibliographic tool creation, and planning and implementation of reading and book-related programs.

Prerequisite: Library Technology 1101 Introduction to Libraries and the Information Age
