EYE 1101: Eye Care Assistant I

Students will be introduced to the profession of eye care assistant, including education on career options in optometry/ophthalmology. Concepts such as medical ethics, regulatory, and legal issues, communication skills, safety, general and ocular anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, and history taking will be introduced.

Credit Hours

8 credit hours (5 lecture hours, 3 lab hours, 8 clinical hours)


Anatomy & Physiology 1500 with a grade of C or better, or equivalent and Health Sciences 1110 with a grade of C or better or equivalent.

Technical Requirements

Students must have regular access to the Internet and a computer. Courses are administered through Blackboard, so students will also need a compatible OS and browser. A list of recommended software can be found here.
