English 1105:
Writing for the Workplace

No matter what your occupation may be, now or in the future, your ability to be able to communicate clearly both inside and outside your workplace has become a highly sought skill among most employers today. English 1105: Writing for the Workplace is a composition course which focuses on the processes and strategies for creating written communication within a workplace setting.

Course Description

English 1105 Writing for the Workplace 3 credit hours.

Focuses on the processes and strategies for creating written communication within a workplace setting. Examines audience awareness, stylistic conventions, and document design. Emphasizes the preparation of a variety of written documents, such as resumes, internal and external correspondence, descriptions, proposals, instructions, summaries, and reports. Designed primarily for students enrolled in career-technical programs. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score, as determined by the English faculty, on the English Composition Entrance Exam required prior to enrollment in English 1105.

Structure of the course

This course is delivered totally online. Computer knowledge, access to a computer, having an Internet service provider (such as AOL, MSN, etc.), and knowing how to operate a computer are necessary to access this course and perform web searches. Course content is broken into units and assignments will be due at the end of each unit. A schedule will be supplied when the student signs online to the course. Because students taking this course have diverse knowledge, all participants are encouraged to regularly share their ideas and experiences.

Students meeting the requirements can enroll by calling the College of DuPage at 630.942.2377 or register online using myACCESS. Click "How to use myACCESS" and follow the instructions. It is suggested that students access each area in COD Online, prior to registration, to see if online learning is for them.
