In this three credit hour class, we will read and study a representative set of works covering British Literature, in its broadest context, from roughly 1800 to the present. We cover everything from British Romantics poets like William Blake and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, to Modernist authors like Virginia Woolf and T.S. Eliot, to contemporary writers like Derek Walcott. In addition to reading the work of these and other authors we will consider the social and historical contexts that gave rise to the literature.
Though this is an online class, students will have extensive opportunities to interact with the professor and with each other.
