Principles of data communications and network systems are covered with an emphasis on: Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Network (WANs), Wi-Fi, Network management, Network troubleshooting, Network security, Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4), Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), Convergence, and Routing.

Prepares student for the CompTIA Network+ Exam.

Credit Hours

3 credit hours (2 lecture hours, 2 lab hours)

Prerequisites

Students must have taken Computer and Internetworking Technologies 1121 with a grade of C or better, an equivalent course, or have the consent of the instructor.

Technical Requirements

Students must have regular access to the Internet and a computer. Courses are administered through Blackboard, so students will also need a compatible OS and browser. A list of recommended software can be found here.
