Arch 1100: Introduction to Architecture ONLINE

Course Description:

This course is a survey course covering the history of architecture from pre-history through contemporary design. Students will be exposed to the theory, history, principles and practice of architecture. Basic principles of architectural analysis, criticism and aesthetic principles will be discussed.

Who should take this course?

Anyone who has an interest in architecture.
Anyone who is considering pursuing a degree in architecture.
Current Pre-Architecture and Architectural Technology Majors at COD. (this course is a pre-requisite for many architecture courses.)
Construction Management Majors. (This course qualifies as a program elective for CM majors.)

This course satisfies the Contemporary Life Skills graduation requirements.

Course Requirements / Special Requirements:

Students will be required to submit the following for successful completion of this course.

Periodic discussion board posts throughout the semester.
Write and submit several short essays.
Complete a short research essay assignment.
Build a physical model of an important work of architecture and submit this model with a short online video. (students will be required to video record their model presentation and post their video to an online hosting site such as vimeo or youtube)
Complete a mid-term and final examination.
