![]() Unit 6: Geology - Landscape Evolution |
![]() |
Overview:The Earth's surface is constantly changing. Erosional processes continuously redistribute the earth materials which make up our physical landscape. Typically these processes operate imperceptibly so that changes go unnoticed during our short lifespans. However, over vast spans of geological time, entire mountain ranges can be totally erased and deep valleys can be completely filled with sediment. Still, even in our brief tenure on the planet, we bear witness to the enormous potential power of water, wind, and ice. Any time that a landslide roars down a mountainside or a flash flood carries mud, trees, and homes downstream, we see the Earth's awesome ability to "redecorate." In this unit you will become familiar with the erosional processes that sculpt the land which you experience every day. Upon its completion you will have a better appreciation for the source of your immediate surroundings.
