I’d like to read a statement. I wish to announce that my colleagues on the board and I have voted to approve a proposal by which the College of DuPage president Sunil Chand will by mutual agreement transition to the position of president emeritus effective immediately.
My colleagues and I on the board intend to confer to determine our immediate next steps to identify an interim leader for the college.
Until that decision is made the college will operate under set procedures governing the temporary absence of the president.
We will schedule a press release for Wednesday where we intend to provide more detailed information on this transition. The particulars on the press release will be available later today from the Public Information office.
I am confident that we will make a seamless transition and continue moving forward as the board seeks to identify a new president for the college. In the meantime, I want to remind everyone that it is our policy not to disclose details about personnel matters and that this situation will be no exception.
So until tomorrow there will be no further information on this matter available from the college.
I want to thank my colleagues on the board for their thoughtful attention on this matter and thank Dr. Chand from his leadership and his continued work on the behalf of the College of DuPage.
At this time I’d like to have a motion to authorize a board chair and secretary to execute an administration agreement with Dr. Chand in accordance with the terms discussed in the closed session subject to review in final session.

At 9 a.m. May 27, 2008, the College of DuPage Board of Trustees held a special meeting with two action items on the agenda: administrator contracts and administrator leave.
The board voted to go into closed session soon after it convened to discuss personnel and related items, as allowed by state law.
When the meeting went back into session a 6 to 1 vote (Board Trustee Kathy Wessel the sole "no" vote) was made on mutual agreement for College of DuPage President Sunil Chand to make an immediate transition to president emeritus.
In an exclusive interview with Interim president Harold McAninch on June 13, Courier editor-in-chief Shannon Torii asked McAninch if he knew why his predecessor Sunil Chand became president emeritus unexpectedly on May 27.
McAninch said, "I don’t want to know. I don’t know what happens in that kind of situation. But I can’t look back, that has no effect on what kind of job I am going to do or not do. I cannot overanalyze that because it doesn’t do me any good or the college any good we just got to keep moving in a positive way. And we will. We will."
According to News Press Release, Chand has been assigned an office in the Library, SRC 3041B. "My time here at the College of DuPage has been very productive," Chand said in the release. "We have faced numerous challenges and at the same time, continue to grow and improve the quality of the institution and our service to the community. In this new role I will help the college bring in the next generation."
