At College of DuPage, the entire advising team wants to support you in reaching your academic goals!

Advising is a shared function across the campus. It consists of three integral components – general advisors, counselors and faculty advisors.

General Advisor

General Advisors help students with their initial course selection, placement test interpretation, general transfer planning, and explanation of degree and certificate requirements. Students are seen on a "walk-in" and "phone-in" basis in the Counseling and Advising Center, Student Services Center (SSC), Room 3200, (630) 942-2259.

General advisors can assist students with the following issues:

Course selection
Transfer information
Information about college procedures
Pre-course test clarification and interpretation
Explanation of degrees and degree requirements
"Credit Hour Overload Permits" for students with an established College of DuPage grade point average
Unofficial progress check toward graduation, explanation of degree audit

Students who are undecided about their goals should seek a counselor for help in choosing a major or career direction.

Counselors

Counselors help undecided students, probationary students, and students who have been academically suspended. They assist students in career counseling, transfer planning, career assessment and learning to manage personal problems. They may provide outside agency referral. Students need to make an appointment at the Counseling and Advising Center, Student Services Center (SSC), Room 3200, (630) 942-2259. Students may also contact a counselor via e-mail.

Students who have decided on a major or occupational program should seek a Faculty Advisor. There are several ways to choose a faculty advisor. Students can talk to a current instructor or a former instructor in their major area of study. Students can stop by the Counseling and Advising Center, Student Services Center (SSC), Room 3200, or call (630) 942-2259 for a faculty advisor referral.

Faculty Advisor

Faculty advisors help students who have decided on a major and they function as experts in their academic or program area. They provide information regarding prerequisites, course selection and substitution, career advising, and program-specific transfer planning. Appointments are made by personal arrangement with the faculty advisor.
