Q: Are Cosmetology degrees and certificates available?
A: Yes. Students may choose to work on a certificate or
an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Cosmetology.
Students who successfully complete 1,500 clock hours (46 credit
hours) and pass a practical and written exam will be awarded a certificate
from C.O.D. and a certificate from the TCD School of Cosmetology.
This certificate from the TCD makes graduates eligible to apply
for a cosmetology license from the State of Illinois.
Q: What is the program schedule?
A: The two-year Cosmetology certificate program will be
offered Mondays through Thursdays from
5 to 9:50 p.m. Students must
register for all cosmetology courses that are offered each term.
Attendance in summer terms will also be required.
Q: What is the admission and registration process?
A: Students applying to the program should meet with a
C.O.D. adviser at either the Addison Regional Center or the Naperville Center prior to applying
for the program. Call the Addison Regional Center at (630) 942-4600
or the Naperville Center at (630) 942-4700 to schedule an appointment. The C.O.D. adviser will assist you with
information about the application process and registration. After
this appointment, you may submit your application in person following your information session, or you
may apply for admission online at www.cod.edu. The program code
for the degree program is 3528 and the certificate program is 4528.
Students must register concurrently for all Cosmetology courses
that are offered each term. Students interested in the Cosmetology
degree should also register for general education courses each term.
Q: Can I transfer previous college credit to the C.O.D.
program?
A: Yes. Students who have previous college credit or cosmetology
coursework and hours from a State of Illinois licensed cosmetology
school may submit a request to transfer credit to C.O.D. by contacting
Bea Brown, Cosmetology supervisor. Call the Addison Regional Center
at (630) 942-4600 for an appointment with Brown to review prior
coursework. Students with transfer credit must meet with Brown for
approval of transfer credit and to be advised on what courses to
register for during their first semester at C.O.D. Transfer credit
is limited to 1,000 clock hours and the first three semesters of
coursework. Students may be required to demonstrate competency in
order to receive credit for prior cosmetology coursework. This would
include a practical and written exam. A fee is required for any
proficiency credit coursework that is approved for transfer. High
school students, who attended the TCD School of Cosmetology, are
eligible to transfer credits provided that they have evidence of
successful completion of coursework.
Q: Is testing required prior to admission?
A: Yes. Testing is required for reading for C.O.D.’s
Cosmetology program. Students must place in reading categories one,
two or three on the exam. Students registering for the English course
for the degree must also take the writing test. Testing is available
at the Addison Regional Center on Mondays to Thursdays from 8:30
a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturdays
from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please call (630) 942-4600.
