Older Adult Institute Classes


Spring Semester 2008

These credit and non-credit classes are designed for but not limited to adults 55 years and older. Spring Semester starts Monday, Jan. 14, and ends Friday, May 16. Credit classes are $108 per credit hour, $54 for those 65 years and older. The senior fee of $54 per credit hour applies to residents of Community College District 502. Dates and fees for non-credit classes vary and appear with each listing. Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice.

PAINTING I. This introduction to painting methods uses various materials such as acrylic, watercolor and oil paint. Emphasis is on technique, originality of content and development of personal style. GLOBAL REORGANIZATION: WORLD ECONOMY. This course, based on the book
The World Is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman, defines what has been described as the greatest socio-economic reorganization of the world since the industrial revolution. The digital revolution has resulted in world-wide instantaneous communication. As a result, established patterns of manufacture and trade are experiencing drastic change. CIVIL WAR II: A COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY. This is the second part of a comprehensive study of the American Civil War. This second semester course covers significant events and people who influenced the end of the war and post-war settlement. The contributions of northerners and southerners, blacks, whites, Indians, immigrants, men and women, the rich, middle-class and poor are covered. CULTURE AND CHRISTIANITY, PART I. Throughout 2,000 years of history, the lives of Jesus and Mary have left an indelible imprint on world culture.
