You do NOT need to have your own computer to take a computer course. Computer labs are available at the Glen Ellyn campus. The main computer lab is the Academic Computing Lab on the third floor of the Student Resource Center.• What kind of computer should I buy?
That is a difficult question to answer. To determine which computer to buy, you must know how you are going to use it. For example, if you just want to use it for word processing, you will have different needs than the person who wants to create multimedia presentations. To help you decide, consider taking an introductory computer course.• Can I proficiency any courses?
The Assessment and Testing office offers the opportunity to gain credit for CIS classes by taking a proficiency exam. Currently there are proficiency tests available for these classes:• CIS 1120 (The Internet)
• CIS 1130 (Windows Basics)
• CIS 1150 (Introduction to CIS)
• CIS 1160 (Windows Command Line)
• CIS 1221 (Intro to Spreadsheets)

• What networking courses are available?
The CIS department offers classes in Local Area Networking (LAN). These classes prepare you for Microsoft Certification exams that lead to the MCSE certification. Here is the list of networking classes available:• CIS 1180 – Introduction to Networking
