Drug Screening
Program
College
of
DuPage
is concerned with the physical, mental, and emotional well being of its
students, including those who participate in intercollegiate athletics. The coaching staff, physicians, athletic trainers, and
administrators strongly believe the use of illegal drugs or abuse of
prescription medication and other controlled substances is detrimental
to a student-athlete’s well being. Drug testing is an
appropriate measure which helps ensure the safety and
health of student-athletes. Additionally, because
participants in intercollegiate athletics are representatives of the
college and are especially respected and held in high esteem by the
student body, they are expected to be good examples of conduct,
sportsmanship and training, which includes abstaining from the use of
illegal drugs.
Many drugs pose serious risks to the health of a
student-athlete when used in conjunction with athletic activities or
physical conditioning programs. Even temporary use of
certain drugs may improve athletic performance thereby creating an
unfair competitive advantage, which violates the basic principles of
sportsmanship. Substance abuse is harmful to one’s
body and mind and violates not only federal and state laws, but also the student conduct standards set forth by
College
of
DuPage.
College
of
DuPage
is dedicated to educating the college community of the harmful effects
of drugs. In an effort to educate student-athletes
concerning drug use in their current lives, as well as beyond athletics,
College
of
DuPage
has
instituted a drug screening and testing program. The
primary objective is to guarantee each student-athlete remains
physically, psychologically, and socially at his/her highest level of
performance in order to compete safely and successfully at the junior
college level.
The intentions of the College of DuPage Drug
Education, Screening and Intervention Program are to educate
student-athletes concerning the dangers of substance abuse, assist any student-athlete with a substance abuse problem and support
any student-athlete who in good faith voluntarily participates in this
program.
NJCAA Statement
It is a fundamental belief of the NJCAA that
athletic participation is a privilege and that those athletes who use
illegal performance enhancing and/or recreational drugs substantively
violate that privilege. In response to any violations
of this nature that occur and are detected in NJCAA-approved or
sanctioned events, continuation of rights and privileges of
participation by the individual or the institutions will be reviewed or
revoked, as appropriate.

The Dietary Supplement Resource Exchange Center (The REC) is provided
by Drug Free Sport to institutions and organizations that want to
provide athletics staff and athletes with accurate and confidential
information about dietary supplements and dangerous and/or banned
substances.
The REC is an anonymous means of obtaining the most
accurate and up-to-date information regarding supplements and other
substances.
