Freestage
FREESTAGE offers students as well as faculty members, an opportunity
to develop, explore and stretch their creativity and skills in a free
environment. Freestage is a forum in which students and faculty can
apply knowledge gained in classes and labs by producing a scene, a one
act play, several scenes from different plays, or a full length play.
Staged readings of original scripts can also be arranged. Freestage
operates with a minimal budget and no fixed theatre space. Thus the
emphasis is on imaginative writing & directing, resourceful acting,
& creative use of space.
KCACTF Acting segments
The following video clips are from the Kennedy Center American College
Theatre Festival's Region III conference held during the second weekend
in January, 2005. College of DuPage had four students nominated for
an acting competition/scholarship, for which they had four scene partners who joined
them as they competed. Of the 1,700 individuals attending the conference,
385 were entered in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition, for which they
were nominated in the past year as a result of performances deemed outstanding
by the ACTF responders. All of our students performed very well, placing
them high in their preliminary rounds. Jennifer Riddle, and partner
Nick Bender, moved to semi-finals, which is amazing. It is important
to note that the competitors ranged from freshman year to third year
MFA acting students. The cut from preliminaries to semi-finals
is drastic — 385 to 36. Jennifer and Nick (who'd arrived with
everyone else at 8:30 a.m. to start the day of auditions), did their
semi-final round near 10 p.m. that night, and were great, though they
did not proceed on to finals. In addition, a one-act festival of six
original works was auditioned, rehearsed and performed in three
days. Of the 80 people who auditioned, 16 were cast, and Monnie Aleahmad
of College of DuPage was one of these sixteen.
Both students and faculty participated in many workshops, some of which ranged
from Shakespeare, Improv., Adjudication, Combat, Alexander, Post-performance
discussions, Auditioning, and Characterization, to name a few.
And finally, we had the opportunity of seeing some of the best work
in the region by attending full performances nominated by regional ACTF
as outstanding, ranging from new works to Othello.
