by phone. The list below includes the various types of permits used by faculty,
advisers and students.

in written format from the instructor. It is not necessary that the permission
is provided on the official form. However, it must include the instructor’s
signature and applicable course information.
• Overload

required for students wishing to take 20 to 24 credit hours. Students
wishing to carry 25 hours or more must have a permit signed by a counselor.
To be eligible, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Reading
Assistance Center
Reading consultants assist students one-on-one to become stronger readers and
more successful students by enhancing reading and study strategies.
Reading Permit to Register
Students required to enroll in a reading course need to have a permit to register
for all/any classes. For students not currently enrolled in a reading course,
permits may be obtained from general advisers or counselors. Students currently
enrolled in a reading course must obtain registration permits from their instructors.
Many courses require reading competency as a prerequisite.
Repeating a Course
A student may repeat any course taken at C.O.D., but credit will be granted only
once and only the higher grade will figure in the GPA. The lower grade will be
converted to an “R” and will not affect GPA. Transfer schools may
or may not use both grades in GPA calculations. Consult an adviser for more information.
