Dana
Thompson
I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a
bachelor’s degree in hearing and speech sciences, and from
California State University, Fullerton with a master’s degree
in counseling. I have worked at various levels of education from
elementary through community college. I began my career at Cal-State
Fullerton in the Department of Communications, followed by several
years with Universal Technical Institute as both a counselor and
director of student services in Glendale Heights and Rancho Cucamonga,
CA, respectively. As a counselor at William Rainey Harper College,
I chaired the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Advocacy
Team, and I co-advised the Indian Pakistani Student Association and
Harper Fusion, a multicultural group. I currently teach Education
1105, Career Development, and Education 1115, College Survival Skills.
I am also a member of C.O.D.’s LGBT Advocacy Team.
I am a funny, outgoing, person who loves working with students of
all ages and all backgrounds. You will find I have a lot of energy.
My main passion is working with LGBT students and students of color
to make sure they have a successful college experience, both academically
and socially. When a student works with me, I want them to feel that
they have not only a direction, but also partner in their education — that
they are not alone. I like to make sure students always have someone
to come back to.
