Michael Duggan
I am very excited to be one of the newest additions to C.O.D.'s counseling
staff. In my previous positions, I worked for six years as a counselor
and then became director of a disability services office at a community
college outside of Portland, OR. Although my primary training is
in rehabilitation counseling, I love working with all types of
students in being a thoughtful listener and dedicated advocate
for their success. It is my hope that students who work with me
leave feeling their concerns have been well heard and also have
a sense of where to go next. I also hope they've laughed at least
once in the course of our discussion.
My education includes a triple major in psychology, sociology and anthropology
from Butler University; a master of rehabilitation counseling
from Southern Illinois University; and post-master’s work in
deafness culture and counseling from Western Oregon University. Some
professional highlights include being a contributing writer and then
director of a million dollar grant program for the Department of Education
called TRIO DSSS; co-chairing an international conference for the Association
on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) in 2001 of more than 1,500
counselors for people with disabilities from around the world; being
awarded Advisor of the Year in 1999 for a student club; and most recently,
successfully developing a rehabilitation counselor internship program
for future counselors at Chemeketa Community College.
