This
section of the Advising Guide was developed to assist advisers in addressing
common questions regarding services, procedures and policies. Each listing
provides a brief description and, when available, a link to the appropriate
web page.
Academic Advising Calendar

is a college-wide comprehensive calendar which gives students, faculty,
and advisers information regarding upcoming events. This includes, but
is not limited to, departmental fairs/open houses, orientation dates specific

disciplinary response.

Advising
C.O.D. offers a variety of advising services for students. Students may begin
in General Advising, Student Resource Center (SRC), Room 2044, if they are unsure
which type of adviser they need.
• ESL
Advising
The ESL Advising office assists individuals whose principle language is not English
to prepare for study at U.S. colleges or for professional employment in the United
States.
• Faculty
Advising
Students who are fairly certain about their major should consult with
a faculty member who teaches in their area of interest. Faculty advisers
can help plan
classes and give advice for transferring to a baccalaureate school.
Use the “Academics” link
and select the appropriate degree program from the drop down menu. For most
programs, advisers will be listed at the bottom of the page.
• General
Advising
General Advisers meet with students on a walk-in basis in SRC 2044.
They are able to assist students with general academic planning, transfer
information,
and pre-test scoring interpretation.
• Honors
Program Advising
Honors Program advisers can assist students who are interested in learning more
about the Honors Program, need a permit to register for an honors course, or
require help planning their honors courses.
• International
Student Advising
The Office of International Admissions provides orientation programs, immigration
advising (student Visa issues), and academic and transfer advising. Current International
Students should be directed to Berg Instructional Center (IC), Room 2084, for
additional assistance. International students wanting to obtain C.O.D. credit
for academic work completed outside the United States need to have a credential
evaluation completed and sent to the Records office. This link includes a comprehensive list
of evaluation services for international transcripts, however, College of
DuPage recommends ECE for our students.
• Multicultural Advising
The Multicultural Center is a primary advocate for ethnically underrepresented
students. We are committed to increasing access, matriculation, retention and
persistence of those served. This is accomplished through monitoring student
progress, providing intervention, advisement, cultural reinforcement, and the
enhancement of campus climate. Students can be referred to the Multicultural
Student Center, which is located in IC 2084 to set up an advising appointment.
• Special
Student Services
All students requesting services need to self identify with the Office of Special
Student Services and provide appropriate documentation of their disability.
It is best if students contact the office before classes begin for a smoother
transition
to College of DuPage.
A.P. Credit
Students interested in obtaining A.P. credit should begin this process at the Assessment
and Testing office. The amount of credit granted may vary.
Assessment
and Testing
The Assessment and Testing office evaluates a student's current skill level
to ensure the best placement in reading, writing and mathematics courses. Additionally,
students may be directed to this office for CLEP testing and proficiency exams.
Athletics
College of DuPage offers men's and women's sports participation for its students.
Auditing a Course
Students interested in auditing a course must indicate their intention to do
so at the time of registration. Tuition is higher when auditing a course because
the cost is not subsidized by taxpayers. Once the course is completed, the
audit grades appear as an “X” on the transcript. No credit is earned,
therefore, audited courses do not count toward degree or certificate requirements
and do not affect GPA. See Grades.
