Career Interest Testing
Interest testing is a very effective tool for educational and career selection, in that it provides an unbiased, factual representation of how you think and work. The College of DuPage offers four different types of interest testing. Students can meet with Counseling and Advising for additional information about Interest Testing Workshops or individual sessions.
Interest Tests Offered:
Strong Interest Inventory, is a widely recognized inventory that measures your likes and dislikes and compares you with others employed in various occupations. The information can help you identify general areas of career interests, as well as, activities and occupations that you might want to explore.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), is one of the most respected and widely used personality assessments. This information will help you learn about your own personality type and how you relate to others. Discover career fields that are best suited to your personality style and increase awareness of your individual strengths.
A Combined Report, uses both the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. While each assessment is helpful in itself, examining your combined results will expand your understanding of both yourself (MBTI) and your career options (Strong) to help you find a compatible career environment.
The Self-Directed Search (SDS), is a career interest test that asks questions about your aspirations, activities, skills, and interests in different jobs. From the immediate results, the SDS produces your personal three-letter Summary Code, which you can use to identify occupations and fields of study that match well with your personality.
Career Exploration Workshops
Combined interest and personality inventories can help you with career and life-planning decisions. Each semester, Career Exploration Workshops are scheduled. These workshops include the administration and interpretation of an interest and personality inventory, a report of your results and descriptions of career information resources which are be used for further career exploration. A fee for each workshop will be charged. Register for or learn more about the Career Exploration Workshops.
