Courses for Grades 3 to 5:

Scratch Programming

Build your basic computer coding skills. Scratch uses computer programming language to manage multiple forms of media including text, images, animation and audio recordings to create interactive stories, games and animations. Instructor: Kelly Kuenstler

Trial by Jury
Be judge, defendant, prosecutor, witness and juror as you reenact famous criminal cases. Explore concepts of the American legal system and develop skills in logical argumentation at the same time. Instructor: Mary Kay Rensch

Junior Med Lab
Scrub up for dissections, microscope work and lab tests as you explore careers in medicine. Learn basic first aid and how to take vital signs. Instructor: John Linardakis

Literary Analysis
Learn how to critically and logically analyze several types of literary works through reading, writing and class discussion. Improve essay writing, reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Instructor: Jacqueline Reid

Public Speaking

Spend Spring Break at COD!

School may be out, but Youth Academy is in session, with fun and engaging activities throughout the week of spring break: Monday to Thursday, March 26 to 29.

Enroll in morning or afternoon classes - or add lunch supervision and spend the whole day on campus!

Morning Classes: 9 to 11 a.m.

Grades 3 to 5:

Math Puzzles
Fun card tricks, games, riddles, puzzles and brainteasers get students excited about math. Students develop arithmetic skills, an understanding of spatial relationships, logical reasoning and creative problem solving skills. Instructor: Nan DeLuca, YEEL-0002-500, $149

Video Game Design
Use game development tools like Unreal Engine 4 to learn basic game design elements from game flow and character creation to backgrounds and sound all wrapped into blueprint block programming. Students will need either their own Gmail account that they can access during class or a 16 GB USB 3.0 flash drive. Instructor: Richard Morton, YEEL-0002-502, $149

Grades 6 to 8:

Introduction to 3D Printing 
3D printing is an excellent option for anyone who ever wanted to invent, create a work of art, or just make something cool! In this course students will learn how to be "makers" by using the Tinkercad online software. This course will allow students to discover all the possibilities of 3D printing. Students will print actual physical objects that they have designed and modeled themselves. Students will need either their own Gmail account that they can access during class or a 16 GB USB 3.0 flash drive. Instructor: Paul Chau, YEMS-0002-501, $149

Competitive Math
Stretch your math abilities by using logic, analytical reasoning and mental math. Learn to quickly solve a variety of algebraic and geometric math problems through math competition. Instructor: Nan DeLuca. YEMS-0002-500, $149
