"Rhodesians Worldwide" 
Rhodesians Worldwide on the World Wide Web is the electronic equivalent of the printed magazine "Rhodesians Worldwide", created to facilitate communications between people who at some stage lived in Rhodesia, and is now known as Zimbabwe.
 
Rhodesian Government in exile 
The Rhodesian Government in Exile is preparing for a return to power in the near future, and is forming a shadowy cabinet of bold, fearless men, ready to grab the reins when the time is ripe. If it cannot be done peacefully, we will return to the bush and wage a new Chimp-urenga, or Gorilla war.
 
“Those were the Days” 
Trevor Hemans has electronically published a little book to record some of the incidents and experiences in the life of a District Commissioner in Rhodesia and Zimbabwe during the 36 years between 1946 and 1981, which saw the phasing out of the colonialist era and the coming into being of the new nation of Zimbabwe.
 
Zimbabwe Independent Online 
Excellent online newspaper highlights both national and local news as well as feature stories. I enjoyed reading it prior to my trip to get a flavor of what Zimbabwe might be like.

Resources 
South Africa, Culture Shock, A guide to customs and etiquette by Dee Rissik, 1994, Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company.
A good overview of modern South Africa with a lot of background on the people who make up the population, including Black, Colored, White (both English and Dutch descendants), Indian, and Chinese. This book has good tips on cultural practices and would be invaluable if you were moving there.

Of particular note: “Why don’t you carve other animals?” by Yvonne Vera of Zimbabwe; “Effortless Tears”, by Alexander Kanengoni of Zimbabwe;I’m not talking about that, now”, by Sindiwe Magona of South Africa; “Mrs. Plum” by Es’kia Mphahlele of South Africa; and “The Prisoner Who Wore Glasses”, by Bessie Head from South Africa.
 
Last Days in Cloud Cuckooland: Dispatches from White Africa  by Boynton, Graham, NY: Random House, 1997. DT1957.B68 1997
This book which is in The Library at College of DuPage is an excellent first hand account by a young writer born in Rhodesia, forced to leave as the country became independent. He fled to South Africa and now resides in New York.
 
Field Museum, Chicago, Illinois
The Field Museum has an extensive Africa exhibit. It is a comprehensive look at the cultural and natural history of Africa, focusing on certain areas at certain times in history. It’s really well done and informative.
 
Art Institute, Chicago, Illinois
The Art Institute has an African Art collection and often has special exhibits.
