MURAL MASTERS TRANSFORM YWCA OF AURORA POOL
 |
Members
and guests entering the YWCA of Aurora swimming pool complex will find
themselves in an underwater environment inhabited by whales, squid and
dolphins, thanks to the artistry of a mural painting class at College
of DuPage.
C.O.D. part-time art instructor Carla Carr and 11 of her students last
December transformed three large walls around the pool deck into underwater
aquatic scenes that incorporate salt water mammals, fish and colorful
coral formations.
“When people enter the pool complex, we want them to feel like
they are sharing a part of the underwater environment with the mammals
and fish,” said Carr.
Carr’s C.O.D. students who worked on the YWCA mural are Lisa Kang,
Aurora; Lauren Bergeron, Joe Wozniak, Karen Lantz and Tavia Sanza, all
of Naperville; Anna Martinez, Roselle; Corinne Ernst, LaGrange; Ashly
Metcalf, Lombard; Catherine Janulis, Glen Ellyn; Javier Terrazas, West
Chicago; and Mike Shredl, Woodridge.
The YWCA of Aurora dedicated its mural during a ceremony last December
that was attended by C.O.D. President Sunil Chand; Chris Picard, vice
president for Academic Affairs; Alain Hentschel, associate dean, Fine
and Applied Arts; and Maren McKellin, coordinator, Field and Experiential
Learning.
