Office of Instructional Development

Supporting C.O.D. students through many unique and flexible opportunities is at the heart and soul of the division's mission.

Academic Support Center
The Academic Support Center (ASC) offers a variety of ways to help students, whether it's through tutoring services, skills development or assistance in reading, writing, math and speech.

Adult Fast Track
The Adult Fast Track (AFT) program is an accelerated associate's degree program designed to accommodate the needs of adults ages 24 and older who lead busy lives. Adults who meet program requirements and are seriously committed to continuing their education can achieve their degree in approximately two years.

Assessment and Testing Services
The Assessment and Testing office is a key first stop on a student's road to success. Whether a student is a native or non-native English-speaking student, the office can evaluate current skill levels to ensure the best placement in reading, writing and math courses. This will contribute to successful results throughout a student's career.

Centers for Independent Learning
Students with demanding schedules can take courses in a self-paced, flexible format in one of four Centers for Independent Learning (CILs). The same college-level content covered in the classroom is presented in an independent format.

College of DuPage Online
Students can complete these courses via the Internet from home, work or an academic computer lab at C.O.D. Online course offerings include many of the general education, business and computer-related subject areas. You can also work on your associate in arts degree or associate in applied science degree as well as earn one of six certificates.

ESL/ABE/ASE
The English as a Second Language (ESL)/Adult Basic Education (ABE)/Adult Secondary Education (ASE) programs assist adults whose first language is not English develop skills for college-level work or skill improvement, as well as provide ESL Family Literacy, GED and Citizenship preparation.

Field and Experiential Learning
Students can combine classroom instruction, reading and homework assignments with a visit through exciting travel-study classes that offer transferable college credit. Interdisciplinary Studies offerings include the Global Studies program, in which students focus on global perspectives by completing most or their general education requirements through blended seminars offered in a team-teaching approach.

Independent Study/Special Projects
This self-directed program allows students to design and complete unique courses of study. Students can pursue a special interest or customize college courses to meet their specific educational goals.

Interdisciplinary Studies
The Interdisciplinary Studies program combines courses from different disciplines into an integrated package for an enhanced learning experience.
