CAREER
OPPORTUNITIES
The travel and tourism industry is a significant contributor to the
global economy, and it fosters increased awareness and appreciation for
the multicultural diversity found around the world. The courses in this
program are designed to provide you with a greater understanding of the
importance and meaningful ways travel and tourism impact our economy,
our lives and our global community.
If you work an eight-hour day from the age of 22 until the age of 62 and
never work overtime, you will spend 80,000 hours at your job. Choose
a career that you will enjoy! Travel and tourism has something to suit
just about anyone's skills, tastes, dreams and desires.
Because of increased complexities within the industry, companies can no
longer offer on-the-job training. These companies now are looking for
individuals who possess the basic working knowledge needed for immediate
employment.
Worldwide career opportunities include work for travel agencies, airlines,
cruise lines, tour operators, convention organizations, hotels and resorts,
car rentals, rail service, motor coach/bus lines, travel writers, brochure
designers, photographers, and government tourist boards. The salary range
is varied. Most companies offer fringe benefits, including reduced rate
or free accommodations and travel.
The courses in the program have been designed to accommodate professionals
wanting to update or expand their skills and new learners seeking a
career within the travel industry. Certificate programs are recommended
for those seeking an entry-level position within the travel industry.
The Associate in Applied Science degree is suggested for those individuals
interested in advancement opportunities.
The Travel and Tourism program is a member of the American
Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) and has been cited by this national
organization as a leader in the field of travel education. |
