CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography (Ultrasound)
is a rapidly growing field with ever expanding career opportunities. Diagnostic
Medical Imaging Sonography (DMIS) is a clinical discipline involving the
use of non-ionizing high frequency soundwaves to create images utilized
for medical interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
DMIS is a 15-month advanced certificate program designed for graduates
of accredited Medical Imaging programs such as Radiology, Nuclear Medicine
and Nursing. Classes are conducted on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
evenings and occasional Saturdays. Clinical education is provided on weekday/weekends
at assigned clinical affiliates.
Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to take the American
Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers examination in OB/GYN, Abdomen,
Superficial Structures and Physics.
The Diagnostic
Medical Imaging Vascular Sonography (DMIV) program is an extension
of the current Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography program designed
to provide trained sonographers in the specialty of vascular imaging for
the clinical institutions and clinics in the Chicago area.
The Diagnostic Medical Imaging Vascular Sonography program is a six-month
certificate program designed for current registered technologists in sonography
in the areas of abdominal, OB/GYN and/or echocardiography. This program
will educate the students in applications of vascular sonography in didactic,
laboratory and clinical applications.
Classes are held Monday and Friday evenings, with clinical education three
days per week. |

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
Applicants who have graduated or are about to graduate from an accredited
medical imaging program are eligible to apply for admission into the Diagnostic
Medical Imaging Sonography (DMIS) program. The accepted areas of study
are Radiography,
Nuclear Medicine, Physical
Therapist, Registered
Nurse and many more.
Graduates of all other allied health programs also must complete coursework
in anatomy and physiology, physics, basic-pathophysiology and college-level
algebra. All applicants need to document successful completion of required
coursework through official college transcripts.
The program can admit only a limited number of students. The number of
students selected is determined by the current availability of clinical
sites. Students will only be sent to sites that can provide adequate supervision
and an appropriate learning environment. An Admissions Committee, consisting
of hospital and college personnel, will oversee the selection process
using a Merit Evaluation form which assigns points for GPA coursework,
placement test scores, references, clinical experience and a personal
interview. The selection process has been established to admit the most
qualified students. Students are admitted to the program according to
their merit evaluation score.
Letters of acceptance are mailed to each admitted applicant. Each successful
applicant must accept the appointment in writing (on a provided form)
within a two-week period. If no response is received, additional appointments
will be offered to qualified students on the waiting list according to
their rank order on the merit evaluation.
Refer to the College of DuPage Catalog that was in effect at
the time of your original enrollment (unless you have not been enrolled
for more than three consecutive terms) for degree requirements, course
descriptions and academic regulations. Catalogs are available in Counseling
and Advising Services, Student Resource Center (SRC), Room 2044,
and in the Admissions
and Information office, SRC 2046.
Meet with one of the faculty advisers listed in this guide to discuss
which courses to take. Consult Counseling, Transfer and Advising Services,
SRC 2044, to obtain a copy of requirements detailed in the Student
Planning Worksheet.
Degree Audits detailing courses you have completed and courses yet to
be taken to satisfy your degree or certificate requirements may be requested
from the Records
office, SRC 2015. |
