CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Storytellers have long been prized for their ability to communicate
complex concepts to an audience in a clear and often entertaining way.
The Motion Picture/Television program is the place for 21st century storytellers
to learn and hone their craft for presentation on film, television, computer
monitors and the World Wide Web. Increasingly, multiple media strategies
are being employed to communicate ever more intricate thoughts, ideas
and information to a world of interested viewers. Video combined with
sound, animation, audio soundscapes, and presentations delivered via CD,
DVD and the web are all part of the world of multimedia.
College of DuPage offers a certificate in Motion Picture/Television as well as the following Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees:
•Animation
•Film/Video Production
•Television Production
Graduates of the Motion Picture/Television program find employment in
a variety of areas. From camera operators to animators, writers to editors,
directors to audio technicians, freelance producers to production team
members, students with the expertise the program offers find fulfilling
employment at the entry-level of the business of media creation. Advancement
in the field is usually based on both area-specific skills and a broad-based
background.
To access a wider variety of job opportunities, some students choose to
continue their education with a bachelor's degree. The Motion Picture/Television
program has a transfer agreement with Chicago's Columbia College, allowing
students to begin at College of DuPage and finish at Columbia.
No matter whether the story you want to tell is "hard news,"
a personal memoir, a comedy, or a motivational and informational presentation,
certain characteristics differentiate successful storytellers from the
rest of the pack. The most successful students in the program possess
strong visual and organizational skills, the ability to understand and
remember technical information, the capability to work well in a team,
good imaginations, and a "self-starter" attitude.
