ESL Advising Office Academic/Professional/Developmental ESL/EFL
Individuals whose primary language is not English prepare for study at U.S. colleges and for professional employment in the U.S. Courses in conversation, advanced listening and speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing, and grammar are offered at pre-intermediate through advanced levels.

English Language Institute (ELI)
This intensive ESL program helps individuals who want or need to improve their English quickly for academic or professional purposes. ELI is offered at six levels, beginning through advanced. Each week, students take 15 to 18 hours of instruction in small, integrated skills courses focusing on listening/speaking/pronunciation, reading/vocabulary and writing/grammar. Class size is restricted to 18. Community residents, full- and part-time students, international professionals, and F-1 international students are eligible.

ESL Literacy
The ESL Literacy program helps adult community members whose primary language is not English understand, speak, read and write English for everyday use. Beginning through intermediate-level courses are offered at locations throughout the district. This program is primarily for adults who lack a high school diploma.

ESL Family Literacy
This program, for non-English language background families, integrates activities for parents and their children. Parents are trained to be primary teachers and partners in their children’s education. Instruction is provided separately for adult parents or caregivers, for their children, and for adults and children together.

ESL Advising
The ESL Advising office provides English skills assessment, advising and assistance with course selection and program planning for individuals whose principle language is not English. Advisers work with students to plan a program of study to meet individual needs and goals. ESL Advising is located in the Berg Instructional Center (IC), Room 2084D. Call 942-3307. Advising appointments can be made through the ABE/ESL office.

For program information, call (630) 942-3697.
