Tobacco Free

COD is now Tobacco-Free

Tobacco use is prohibited at all COD campus locations. We’re clearing the air for our students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Why here, why now?

  • Provide a cleaner, safer learning environment
  • Promote health and well-being in our community
  • Enhance the COD campus experience

In line with our institutional core values, we must all be respectful of our physical surroundings, including those areas immediately adjacent to the College.

Tobacco-Free Policy Enforcement

The first four months the Tobacco-Free Policy has been in place, College of DuPage emphasized voluntary compliance, seeking first to educate students and employees. Individuals or groups found using tobacco products on campus were given a verbal reminder of the Tobacco-Free Policy. Individuals were given up to three verbal and/or written warnings prior to receiving an official citification which included a $15 fine. Although our policy was not created to convince people to quit tobacco use, we offer assistance to those who wish to do so.

As of December 12, 2012, the College has instituted the enforcement of the $15 fine for using tobacco on campus. Throughout this process, the College has focused on the importance of treating each other with dignity and respect. With the addition of a fine for non-compliance, we intend for the tobacco-free policy, like all college policies, to become fully-enforced.
