Description of Organization: Community Access Naperville (CAN) empowers young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to have meaningful and productive lives among friends and family, focusing on abilities rather than disabilities. Our participants are individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities which limit communication and social skills. CAN’s programs include both vocational and recreational activities.
Description of Service Learner Role: Service Learner Volunteers guide and encourage participants, assist them with vocational tasks, help them participate in community outings, and just hang out and get to know them. Our program leader lets them know what is needed, and supervises all activities.
Organization Requirements: Because of logistics, we do need our service learner volunteers to be available for full 5-hour sessions (9 a.m. – 2 p.m. weekdays, or 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturdays). To sign up for one or more sessions, contact the CAN Program Coordinator: email@example.com or (630) 352-1928
