Cosmetology Open Houses at Naperville Center May 8 and 10

By Ken Reed

College of DuPage will conduct two open houses at its Naperville Regional Center on Thursday, May 8, and Saturday, May 10, to introduce cosmetology classes that will be offered at the center this August.

The open houses are scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 8 and from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 10.

Located at 1223 Rickert Drive, the Naperville Regional Center will become the second C.O.D. location where students can earn a certificate or an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Cosmetology. C.O.D. began offering cosmetology classes at the Addison Regional Center, 301 S. Swift Road, in August 2006.

Bea Brown, C.O.D. coordinator, Cosmetology program, said the cosmetology classes will be conducted in state-of-the-art classrooms at the Naperville center. She added that program and enrollment information will be available during both open houses. Door prizes will be awarded.

See an Adviser Before Registering for Summer

By Brian Kleemann

April is Advising Awareness Month, and students are encouraged to see a general adviser, counselor or faculty adviser during April before registering for summer classes at College of DuPage.

"Seeking advice early can help students in a variety of ways," explained Sue Martin, dean of Students. "In addition to course selection, students can receive help in determining future plans, achieving goals and information on transfer."

The following help is available for students:

General advisers help students with initial course selection, placement test interpretation, general transfer planning, explanation of degree requirements, referrals and choosing or locating a faculty adviser. Students can receive assistance by visiting the Counseling and Advising Center, Student Resource Center (SRC), Room 2044; by calling (630) 942-2866 or by e-mail at: www.generaladvising@cod.edu.

Faculty advisers help students who have chosen a major. Students can select from a current or former instructor or a full-time faculty member teaching in a discipline related to the student's area of interest. Contact a faculty member directly or the Counseling and Advising Center.

If students are undecided about a major, counselors can address educational, career, personal development and life transition goals or concerns. Students can stop by the Counseling and Advising Center or call (630) 942-2866.
