Older Adult Institute Summer Lecture Series: Jazz. In 1926, Dixieland jazz bands moved north to Chicago and New York and new forms of jazz, such as Boogie Woogie, Swing and Be-bop, were introduced. Burrell Gluskin, a jazz musician, demonstrates the evolution of jazz and describes the suffering from which this great American art form was born. Building K, West Commons, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., free. Gahlberg Gallery Art Exhibit — Susan Giles. Chicago artist Susan Giles closes the season with a video installation about travel and tourism. Giles' artwork stems from living a cumulative two years in India and Indonesia researching the intersection of tourism and culture. Giles' video work arises from her desire to understand what occurs at the root of common linguistic and tourist encounters, and examines the shaping of self and others abroad and at home. Gallery hours: Mondays to Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; also open during Mainstage events and by appointment.
