Southern Illinois University-Carbondale is a Participant in the IAI (General Education Core Curriculum and/or the Illinois Baccalaureate Majors' Curricula).
There is transfer information covering a wide variety of topics in the "General Transfer Information" section of the Advising Handbook. The handbook is located in Counseling, Transfer and Advising Services (IC-2010) and may be useful to students.
Transfer students must have an overall 2.0 G.P.A (as calculated by SIUC's grading policy and procedures) for all college work attempted and be in good standing for admission. Students need to send transcripts from all colleges attended. Students with fewer than 39 quarter hours are also required to meet the same admission requirements as entering freshmen and must submit a high school transcript and ACT (or SAT) scores. The maximum amount of quarter hours that can transfer from COD is limited only by the provision that students must earn at least 60 semester hours at a four-year institution and the last 30 semester hours at SIUC.
Because of the interest in certain programs, students are urged to complete the admission application process as early as possible. SUIC operates on a rolling admission basis and closes programs as they fill for a specified term.
The Capstone Program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale is a program for COD students who earn an A.A.S. degree and a minimum 2.25 G.P.A (as calculated by SIUC's grading policy and procedures) and whose needs can be met within one of the participating departments. The two-year program (60 semester hours of credit) gives maximum credit for previous academic and work experience in the student's occupational field. Application forms for the Capstone Program may be obtained in Counseling, Transfer and Advising Services and in the CCIC in the LRC at College of Dupage, or by writing New Student Admissions Services at SIUC.
Southern Illinois University at Carbondale prepares annually a Counselor's Advisement Catalog which contains suggested two-year programs for community college students by major prior to transferring to SIUC. SIUC's Counselor handbook along with the Transfer Credit Articulation Report provided by SIUC should answer students' questions regarding course and curriculum planning and course-to-course equivalencies with SIUC. Each major lists a contact person and telephone number for further information regarding the major. Students should consult the handbook early while at College of DuPage. Copies of the Counselor's Advisement Catalog are located in Counseling, Transfer and Advising Services and in the CCIC in the LRC. SIUC also provides an in-depth transfer resource and a community college notebook. This resource contains up-to-date information on the various majors, service areas and job placement at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Students with an A.A. or A.S. degree from COD will be admitted to SIUC with junior standing and be considered to have met SIUC's general education (university core curriculum) requirements.
Students who do not earn an A.A. or A.S. degree must complete SIUC's University Core Curriculum prior to graduation from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale but not for admission. Students transferring without a degree should attempt to complete as many of SIUC's University Core Curriculum as possible while at COD.
SIUC has prepared a videotape titled "SIUC Today" designed to acquaint the prospective student on what SIUC has to offer. The tape is located in Counseling, Transfer and Advising Services and in the College and Career Information Center (CCIC) in the LRC.
Open Houses and off-campus
previews give prospective students and their families the
opportunity to meet with SIUC faculty, administrators, and
students. These events are scheduled throughout the year, usually
on weekends. For specific information about Open Houses,

The Bachelor of Science degree program in advanced technical studies at SIUC's College of Applied Sciences and Arts is designed specifically for students who have entered career paths for which there are no traditional bachelor's degrees.
The ATS program offers higher-level technical courses and provides skills for technology management. It builds on the Associate in Applied Science degree.
Under SIUC's new College of Applied Sciences and Arts (formerly the College of Technical Careers), new baccalaureate programs were approved: Architectural Studies, Automotive Technology, Aviation Technologies, Dental Hygiene, Mortuary Science and Funeral Services, Radiologic Science and Physician Assistant. Most of these program options will have a Capstone Option.
30 - 46 Hours
1. Students approved for the Capstone Option are required to complete a 30 semester hour university Core Curriculum program (See Capstone Option).
2. Equivalent courses completed at a community college can reduce the requirements in the university Core Curriculum for the Capstone Option students.
3. Students can fulfill some of these requirements through successful completion of proficiency examinations.
1. An Associate in Applied Science degree from an Illinois community college meets this requirement.
2. A maximum of 12 credit hours of internship, work experience or independent study can be part of these 38 hours.
3. Approved technical career electives can be 26 to 38 of these 38 hours.
The Advanced Technical Studies program at SIUC offers the Capstone Option. The Capstone Option recognizes your already marketable technical skills and will guarantee you a bachelor's degree program that requires no more than 60 planned semester hours of course work beyond the A.A.S. degree. The Capstone Option is available for most A.A.S. programs. To qualify, you must have earned a minimum grade point average of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale (According to SIUC's calculation of the G.P.A.) in all accredited work attempted prior to earning your A.A.S., and you must apply to the Capstone Option by the end of your first semester at SIUC.
A minimum of 120 semester hours, including work earned a SIUC and elsewhere, is required for a Bachelor of Science degree through the Capstone Option. students must meet all university requirements: credit hours, minimum grade point average and all program requirements of the degree-granting unit. Of the 120 semester hours needed for the bachelor's degree, at least 60 hours must be completed at a four-year institution.
