Quarter to Semester Conversion Guide

"HOW TO READ THIS TRANSFER GUIDE"

With the start of the Fall, 2005 term College of DuPage will switch from a quarter to semester system. All the transfer guides will contain both quarter and semester course articulation information to assist students and faculty advisors during this transition phase. Quarter term classes have three digit course numbers, while semester course have Bolded four digit course numbers: For example, ENGLI 101 is a quarter course and ENGLI 1101 is a semester course. In the transfer guides, articulation tables will show a number of course articulation arrangements, for example:

Speec 100, 1100
In the above case the Speech 100 course or 1100 can be used to meet a requirement.

Engli 102 + 103, 1102
In above case, English 102 plus 103 or English 1102 can be used to meet the requirement.

Math 115, 1115 and 116 and 117, 1116
This case describes two situations: 1.) Math 115 equals 1115 and Math 116 + 117 equals 1116
2.) Math 115 + 116 + 117 equals Math 1115 + 1116

The transfer guides are a valuable tool to assist students and faculty advisors with the transfer process. Given the complex nature of the articulation process should you have any questions regarding course equivalencies contact the College Articulation Office at 630/942.2500.

TRANSFER INFORMATION

North Central College is a Participant in the IAI (General Education Core Curriculum and/or the Illinois Baccalaureate Majors' Curricula).

There is transfer information covering a wide variety of topics in the "Transfer Information" section of the Advising Handbook. The handbook is located in Counseling, Transfer and Advising Services (IC-2010) and may be useful to students.

A transferable cumulative grade point average of 2.25/4.0 or above is recommended. You may not have been dismissed from the most recent college you attended. COD students do not need to submit ACT or SAT test results but must submit an official transcript from each college attended and a high school transcript. Usually, students who have an associate's degree from College of DuPage will enter with junior status. If you have less than one year of college credit , your high school record will be strongly considered in the admission decision.

The unit of credit at North Central is the credit hour. One quarter hour = 2/3 of a credit hour. COD students will have their previous work evaluated and translated into credit hours. North Central College requires 120 credit hours to complete a degree at North Central. We accept 100 quarter hours from College of DuPage.

North Central College will accept transfer credits from COD for all courses which are comparable to those in North Central's curriculum or which are basic to the liberal arts program. The Office of Admission at North Central provides an unofficial "on-the-spot" evaluation of student transcripts and gives guidance on financial aid questions.

In general, "D" grades transfer if the overall G.P.A. is 2.25. COD students who plan to transfer to North Central College should contact a transfer counselor at North Central as early as possible. Call (630) 637-5800 for an appointment.

North Central College does not accept College of DuPage's A.A. or A.S. degree as meeting all general education requirements. Students must complete North Central's general education requirements prior to graduation from North Central College but not for admission. However, COD students should attempt to complete as many of North Central's General Education Requirements as possible while at College of DuPage.

COD students planning to transfer to North Central should contact a transfer counselor at North Central College as early as possible. Call (630) 637-5800 for an appointment.

CORE CURRICULUM

Fall Term 2000 initiates a new core curriculum for North Central College.  A student who completes the IAI General Education Core Curriculum at College of DuPage will have automatically completed the core portion of North Central's general education curriculum.  A student not participating in the IAI can select courses approved by North Central College to ensure subject areas of the curriculum are met.  The column titled "NCC Code" indicates the abbreviation used for each requirement.  The code can be found within the course substitution guide under the heading "Gen Ed" if the class meets the requirement.
