Quarter to Semester
Conversion Guide
"HOW TO READ THIS TRANSFER GUIDE"
With the start of the Fall, 2005 term College of DuPage will switch from a quarter to semester system. All the transfer guides will contain both quarter and semester course articulation information to assist students and faculty advisors during this transition phase. Quarter term classes have three digit course numbers, while semester course have Bolded four digit course numbers: For example, ENGLI 101 is a quarter course and ENGLI 1101 is a semester course. In the transfer guides, articulation tables will show a number of course articulation arrangements, for example:
Speec 100, 1100 In the above case the Speech 100 course or 1100 can be used to meet a requirement. Engli 102 + 103, 1102 In above case, English 102 plus 103 or English 1102 can be used to meet the requirement. Math 115, 1115 and 116 and 117, 1116 This case describes two situations: 1.) Math 115 equals 1115 and Math 116 + 117 equals 1116 + 2.) Math 115 + 116 + 117 equals Math 1115 + 1116The transfer guides are a valuable tool to assist students and faculty advisors with the transfer process. Given the complex nature of the articulation process should you have any questions regarding course equivalencies contact the College Articulation Office at 630/942.2500.
Illinois State University is a Participant in the IAI (General Education Core Curriculum and/or the Illinois Baccalaureate Majors' Curricula).
There is transfer information covering a wide variety of topics in the "General Transfer Information" Section of the Advising Handbook. The handbook is located in Counseling, Transfer and Advising Services and may be useful to students.
Transfer students must have an overall 2.0 G.P.A. for all college work completed and be in good standing for admission to Illinois State University. Some majors at ISU require a GPA above the minimum required for admission. Students with fewer than 45 quarter credit hours are also required to meet the same admission requirements as entering freshmen and must submit a high school transcript and ACT scores.
Transfer credit from COD is limited to 96 quarter hours with an additional maximum 6 quarter hours of physical education plus military credit.
Students who do not earn an A.A. or A.S. degree must complete ISU's General Education or the IAI requirements prior to graduation from ISU but it is not a requirement for admission. Students transferring without a degree or the IAI should attempt to complete some of Illinois State University's General Education or IAI requirements while at College of DuPage.
Students who earn an A.A. or A.S. degree from COD must meet admission requirements and will enter ISU with junior standing and with all General Education requirements met.
Students who enter ISU having completed the IAI will meet all General Education requirements. Students may also complete the IAI after transferring to ISU with ISU's IAI approved courses.
Students are required to pass the University Writing Examination at ISU after transferring. The Writing Examination must be taken before completion of 75 semester hours (including transfer hours).
Illinois State University has prepared an Articulation Handbook which outlines suggested two-year programs prior to transferring and provides names of people to contact in various departments at ISU. Copies of the handbook are located in Counseling, Transfer and Advising Services (IC-2010) and in the CCIC in the LRC. It is an excellent resource for students wishing to transfer to ISU.
Illinois State University has established a fall semester application deadline of April 1 and a supporting documents deadline of June 30. However, students should apply about one year in advance. Dates are subject to change as enrollment targets are met.
New Start Policy: Students who previously attended Illinois State University and left with less than a 2.0 GPA may return and begin with a new grade point average calculated from the point of reentry if:
1. 60 or fewer hours were earned at ISU prior to enrolling at COD 2. 45 quarter hours were earned at COD after leaving ISU 3. An A.A. or A. S. degree was earned at COD
A student may exercise the New Start option only once. Students are readmitted as General Students.
Students are invited to visit campus for an information session and campus tour Monday through Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The Admissions Office is also open on most Saturdays during the academic year from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon with the information session and tour beginning at 10:00 a.m. Phone 309-438-2181 or toll free at: 800-366-2478 for an appointment.
ISU has established a transfer student scholarship called the Community College Foundation Scholarship (CCFS). Qualifying candidates are community college transfer students whose cumulative G.P.A. is 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale with an anticipated Associate Degree in Arts or Science. Admitted students will automatically be mailed a scholarship application in early March. There are 10 awards valued at $300 each ($750/semester for 4 semesters) One award will be designed for a Phi Theta Kappa member.
COD transfer students are strongly encouraged to earn an A.A. or A.S. degree prior to transferring with a minimum 2.5 G.P.A.

ACS majors are also required to complete a minor in an applied area such as Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or Mathematics. Applied Computer Science majors are encouraged to apply early. Since there is a large number of native and transfer students who want to enroll in ACS courses, ISU will admit majors on a competitive basis and limit enrollment in most sections to "majors only."

Illinois State University strongly urges College of DuPage students planning to major in a program in business to complete the math courses listed above prior to transfer.
*The Economics department has developed a new "Principles of Economics" course, ECO 105, which will replace ECO 101(Econo 202, 2202) and 102(Econo 201, 2201). This is a four semester hour micro/macro combined course and will be offered for the first time in the fall of 1998. The evaluations office has indicated that the currently accepted transfer equivalents of ECO 101(Econo 202, 2202) and 102 (Econo 201, 2201) will be accepted as a combination to equate to the new ECO 105 course. Transfer students who have only completed one of these two courses upon transfer will receive elective credit for the course completed but will still be required to complete ECO 105 at Illinois State. Transfer courses will continue to be accepted as ECO 101 and 102 until the spring or summer of 1999. ECO 105 is a required tool course for students following the 1998-99 undergraduate catalog.
Students seeking to apply to the College of Education will be selected on cumulative grade point average with a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. for Early Childhood and Jr./Middle School, and 2.7 G.P.A. for Elementary Education. Students are strongly urged to take the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) prior to enrolling at ISU. Call the Assessment office at (309) 438-2135 to schedule an appointment.
Students may also take the PPST at any Sylvan Technology Center. The test is also required for Special Education and Secondary Education majors.
If a student completes the Clinical Laboratory Science and all other appropriate requirements for an Associate of Science or Associate of Arts at College of DuPage and is admitted to Illinois State University, that student shall be eligible for this Articulation Agreement.

INFORMATION AND OPTIONS REGARDING ISU's NEW GENERAL EDUCATION
PROGRAM WHICH IS EFFECTIVE WITH THE START OF THE 1998-99 ACADEMIC
YEAR:
Illinois State University has initiated a new General Education Program which is effective with the start of the Fall 1998 term. All new freshmen who begin Illinois State University in the Fall 1998 semester or later will be required to complete the new General Education Program. New transfer students have the option of entering under the catalog year they began at their community college (provided their attendance was uninterrupted) and completing the former University Studies program if their catalog year is from 1997-98 or earlier.
