OVERVIEW
Integration Feature— Linking an Excel Worksheet to a Word Document
This unit will provide detailed instruction on integrating Word and Excel. You will complete only one project in the Excel Integration (EI) section of the textbook. This part follows Excel and comes just before Access in your textbook; the edges of your pages are yellow.
Project 1—Linking an Excel Worksheet to a Word Document
In this project, you are introduced to linking a worksheet to a Word document. Topics include a discussion of the differences among copying and pasting, copying and embedding, and copying and linking. You will learn what Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) is all about and how it is used today. Additionally, you will be opening multiple applications, printing and saving a document with a linked worksheet; and editing a linked worksheet in a Word document.
OBJECTIVES
At the completion of Project 1, Linking an Excel Worksheet to a Word Document,
you will be able to:
- Open a Word document and an Excel workbook
- Link an Excel worksheet to a Word document
- Print and save the Word document with the linked worksheet
- Edit the linked worksheet
KEY TERMS
Instead of listing key terms, you should pay particular attention to the notations in the outside margin of each page. These popular Other Ways and More About features provide in-depth knowledge of Office 97. The Case Perspective provides an insight on the subject covered in the project.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES
As you read Microsoft Office 97—Introductory Concepts and Techniques (your textbook), be at your computer and actually perform the steps as instructed in each project. This will provide you the basic understanding for each of the objectives of the project. You will complete additional exercises and assignments. These serve as reinforcement to hands-on activities within the project.

Note: The files used in this project are on your student disk in the Excel folder. Both the Word documents and the Excel documents are in the Excel folder.
ASSIGNMENTS
Complete and submit via e-mail the following assignment to your instructor:
- There are no End-of-Project Questions.
Project Exercises
The following Project Exercises are to be completed and submitted via e-mail. All Project Exercises should be submitted as attachments to your e-mail.
These exercises will be graded and awarded points. A point will be deducted for each error found; this includes formatting errors, typos, or any type of error. Each page is worth 10 points. Please proofread carefully! You can also refer to your Grade Sheet for these assignments and point values. Be sure to record your points once your assignment is returned with a grade.
- EI1.10 (LAB 2) 20 pts (files on in the Excel folder)
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Enrichment activities are not counted as part of your grade but are recommended since they will develop your skills more thoroughly in using Microsoft Office. I would especially recommend doing the exercise on Help. One of the best things you can do for yourself it to become extremely familiar using Help. There will be many times when you have no one to turn to for assistance except the Help feature. Microsoft has done an excellent job in providing Help. Please make use of it! In fact, before you ask me a question on how to do something, make sure you have used Help to try and find the answer.
These exercises are in your textbook:
- EI1.9 (LAB 1)
- EI1.10 (LAB 3)
 ON-LINE TEST
There is no on-line test for this project.
