The Student Success Program
For College Prep Reading Students
The Student Success Program serves students who are presently enrolled
in college prep reading courses. We are located in the Counseling and
Advising Office, Student Resource Center (SRC) 2044.
Hours
Appointments are required
8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Student Success Advocates serve as a student’s primary contact
outside of the classroom during their completion of college prep reading
courses. Advocates work in partnership with the reading instructor
and student by visiting classrooms to discuss services, scheduling
one-on-one advising sessions with the student, and attending mid-term
and end of term instructor/student conferences.
During the initial meeting with students, advocates review and help
prioritize student needs and goals. Assessment often involves the following:
- Time management use: includes looking at fixed commitments such as
academic, work, and family obligations.
- Navigation and use of student services: includes utilizing campus resources
for academic, career, and/or personal assistance.
- Advising: includes course selection for next term or referral for other
advising assistance as needed.
Follow up meetings between the advocate and the students are held throughout
the term as needed.
