I am excited to be at College of DuPage as a counselor and as faculty.
Although I have worked in various clinical settings since 1993,
including community mental health centers, hospitals and private
practice, I have always cherished my work with college students.
My experience working in counseling services at DePaul University
and the University of Southern California (USC) helped me understand
the many challenges that students face academically, vocationally
and psychologically. As an adjunct professor at Oakton Community
College since 2003 and at Wright College since 2005, teaching counseling/interviewing
and psychology respectively, I came to understand the breadth of
students’ needs, goals and interests.
I am passionate about my work with students of color and how they
evoke their strengths and develop resilience through struggles. At
USC, I helped coordinate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) mentoring program and the Asian-American mentoring program,
as well as co-facilitated a men’s therapy group. I have also
worked extensively with Latinos and African-Americans and speak some
Spanish, Bicol and Tagalog.
I hold a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Loyola University, Chicago,
an M.A. in clinical psychology from Roosevelt University, and a B.A.
in psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have been
a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) since 1997.
