Barbara
Dion graduated from Wheaton College
in 1983 with a master of arts degree with high honors in counseling
psychology. She was in private practice for two years before coming
to College of DuPage in 1985. She received the Excellence in Advising
award in 1989 and has attended seminars on alcoholism and drug
abuse, developmental psychology (using the works of Gessell), Alzheimer's,
and housing options for the elderly. Classes taken include a University
of Chicago presentation on Freud and adolescent ambiguity, parenting
teens, learning disabilities and psychoactive drugs. She also worked
at a walk-in crisis center for one year, as a patient representative
(troubleshooting liaison) for the Springfield Medical Center, and
for the State of Illinois as both an Employment Services Manpower
Representative II and III.
She is a vociferous reader, keeping herself up-to-date on the latest
mental health issues in her commitment to deliver the best possible
counseling services tailored to the individual.
