Climate
Temperatures in Northern Illinois
vary from extremes of -10ßF (-23ß C) in January to 95ßF
(34ß C) in July and August. From November to April, the
temperature is usually below 50ß F (10ß C) and warm winter
clothing is essential.
Housing
Student housing or homestays are not provided through
College of DuPage, therefore students are required to
make their own living arrangements.
Scholarships
There are no financial aid or scholarship opportunities
available for F-1 international students at College of
DuPage. International students are expected to pay the
full cost of tuition.
English as a Second Language
To develop or refine English language skills, the college
offers full-time intensive International
English Language Institute (ELI).
Employment
On-campus employment is available on a limited basis up
to 20 hours per week. International students may accept
off-campus employment only with prior approval from the
Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
Social Security Number
In order to obtain a Social Security number as an F-1
International student, you must have an offer of employment
on-campus. You must attend the mandatory International
F-1 orientation for any further information and assistance.
Drivers License
To obtain a drivers license in Illinois it is extremely
difficult without a Social Security number. You will need
to be prepared to rely on your hosting family for transportation
to College of DuPage, or public transportation (very limited
services).

Orientation
A mandatory one-day orientation program
is offered three times a year for new international students,
as well as individual meetings with the international
student advisor before the start of the semester and throughout
the year.
Immigration Advising
Information relating specifically to
international students in F-1 non-immigrant status with
regard to immigration requirements and regulations.
Academic Advising
and Transfer Information
Assistance is available in course scheduling and planning
for College of DuPage as well as for transfer to four-year
colleges/universities.
Insurance
Information about health insurance and dental plans specifically
designed for international students. Please note: College
of DuPage does not automatically provide health insurance.
It is the responsibility of the student to purchase health
insurance.
