What is a Learning Community?
A learning community is a unique, innovative learning
experience that typically involves students enrolling as a cohort in
two or more courses connected by a common theme. Learning communities
can be as simple as two courses linked by a common topic to fully integrated
programs of study.
In a learning community, students
have greater opportunities to make connections with their professors
and classmates and, in some cases, with the community beyond the college.
They also have the opportunity to make connections between the subject
matter of their coursework in ways that enhance and deepen learning.
College of DuPage offers a wide
variety of learning communities. All are designed to enhance the overall
learning experience of students in ways that go beyond the actual content
of the course or courses.
